Aggravated robbery suspect Ratahi Chopper Peita should not be approached. Instead, people should call 111 immediately, Auckland City District Police said.

A woman has “significant” head injuries after a violent assault in West Auckland.

Auckland City District Police said the 58-year-old woman was injured when her handbag was snatched in Henderson at midday on Monday.

She was still receiving treatment at Auckland City Hospital on Friday.

“She and her family are understandably terrified by what has happened to her,” Detective Sergeant Chris Goldsmith said.

Police were hunting 28-year-old Ratahi Chopper Peita in relation to the assault.

“We now need your help to locate him so we can place him before the courts and be held accountable for what he has done,” Goldsmith said.

Police also had an arrest warrant for Peita after he allegedly breached court release conditions.

Anyone who sees Peita should call 111 immediately and not approach him as Police consider him dangerous.

Anyone with information on Peita’s whereabouts can contact Detective Sergeant Goldsmith on 021 191 4015.

People can also anonymously contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
